WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO..
Eau de Vie, cocktail magic!
On a recent few days spent in Melbourne, Australia, we happened upon a cocktail bar extraordinaire. By scouring the various websites for unusual bars in Melbourne this one stood out. Eau de Vie is described as having a speakeasy type of décor which by the unassuming entry fits the description very aptly. Once inside the very dimly lit salon, the main source of light apart from the candles on the tables would be the flaring of the blow-torch behind the bar. Each cocktail, and there are MANY to choose from, seems to involve some sort of extraordinary jiggery-pokery with fire, ice or smoke or all of the above! Very much worth the visit for pre-dinner drinks or settle in for the night. Their Website
Qantas Status Credits, now you're Golden.
I just this week realised my Qantas Silver status was due to run out at the end of this month. There was no way I was able to fit in enough flights to retain it as work was just getting in the way, must do something about that! Anyway Jo still has 3 months left so I set about investigating ways to retain her Silver Status and uncovered a marvellous plan to elevate her to Gold and for me to regain my rightful position in Silver. I have a step by step guide on our Youtube channel, HERE, so follow the link, follow the steps and we'll see you in the Qantas Club next time you fly.
Not always what you see is what you get!!
Although we have not really had any bad experiences with AirBnb we also do our research fairly well before committing to a place to stay. However it seems no amount of investigation will reveal if everything is at it seems in the pics. A bit of "creative" photography can make a huge difference to how some things may appear. This place advertised a roof top pool, which in itself is completely accurate and nothing was mentioned about the size of the pool. More a spa without the water jets I think!!

ACROPHOBICS NEED NOT ATTEND-
All tall structures these days seem to have some sort of glass floored viewing area guaranteed to have you digging your nails into whoever is close at hand but is this one in France"over the top?"
WHERE IS IT?
THAI AIRWAYS SAYS-
WATCH THAT WAISTLINE MATE.
Thai Airways International released a statement in the Bangkok Post early March that there would be a limit on waist sizes for passengers, and a ban on carrying infants on laps in business class on its two newly delivered Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This is a consequence of the installation of seat belt airbags for safety.

YOU DID WHAT!
Someone's getting their butt kicked for this one. Late last year Taiwan issued an updated version of their passport featuring what was intended to be an illustration of Taiwan's Taoyuan Airport. Instead the designer mistakingly used an illustration of Dulles International Airport in Washington DC.
In total 200,000 passports had been printed and 285 actually issued. Obviously they have recalled and all of them been destroyed. The kicker is that the mistake was pointed out over social media!!

Saving the planet while having fun.
On a recent stay in Brisbane, Australia, I had the opportunity to try out the newly introduced share transport system from Lime. In a nut shell the Lime electric scooters can be found spread throughout the Brisbane CBD and via an app located and hired for the princely sum of $1 to unlock the scooter then 30 cents per minute thereafter. Download the free App, register with your mobile number and a credit card and your good to go. The scooters have a top speed of 25 klm's per hour which is enough to do some damage to yourself or others so helmets are mandatory. Most scooters can be found with a Lime helmet hanging off the handlebars but to be sure best to bring your own. From a full charge the range is approx. 30 kilometres and the app will give you the battery level so you won't get stuck mid-ride. If you want to see how it went click- HERE for Youtube channel
It's a long way to the top if you want a rooftop bar.
For those non-baby boomers that was a play on the AC-DC 70's hit. But we recently discovered a website solely devoted to one of our favourite locations in a new city that has taken the hard work out of locating them. We regularly try to seek out these eagle's nest venues after a hard days exploring to kick back and survey our new found home city for a few days or a few weeks in some cases. We are travelling down to Melbourne after Christmas for a few days and even though that is my real home town I discovered newly opened or previously unknown rooftop bars for us to test out. The Rooftop Guide website has a very comprehensive selection from around the world with good reviews and directions on how they can be found. Don't know if they were all reviewed by the same person but if they decide to leave, I want their job! Check out your next city for possibilities HERE.

Recently, Brian, from Travel Awaits.com reached out asking if Jo and I would be interested in being interviewed for their website. We were both more than happy to oblige but first checked out Travel Awaits to see if their type of demographic would suit us. It suited us to a "T" and we spent quite some time sifting through their articles and other interviews and almost forgot to reply to his invitation! If you're interested in finding out what set us on this journey see the interview, HERE.

TAKING MORE CONTROL OF YOUR OWN HEALTHCARE-
Last year we took a few months off to practice a little self-care which is something unfortunately people that work in healthcare not always practice. We spent 2 months in Kuala Lumpur with the plan to eat healthily and exercise regularly. We also found a business that, for a fee much less than you would pay in Australia , you could select various tests that normally would require a GP appointment with a referral then to a specialist to order the test. That is if they conceded it was necessary to have said test. Our experience was very worthwhile and read all the details- HERE
