Island Lagoon view point is 18 klm's south of Pimba on the Stuart Highway in South Australia. Fed by Eucolo Creek, Island Creek, Salt Creek and Woolshed Creek the lagoon covers 96,000 hectares when full. The Island Lagoon Tracking Station was the first deep space station to be established outside of the United States and was constructed in November 1960. It is possible to hike down the hill from the viewing area to the dry lake bed, it's quite a walk and allow at least 40 minutes each way.
